"Justices Reject Ban on Violent Video Games for Children"

"Justice Alito said the majority opinion was too quick to dismiss differences between current video games and other media. 'The objective of one game is to rape a mother and her daughters,' he wrote. In another 'players attempt to fire a rifle shot through the head of President Kennedy as his motorcade passes by the Texas School Depository.'
Soon, he added, children may play three-dimensional high-definition games wearing special equipment that will allow them to “actually fell the splatting blood from a blown-off head.”

Real scene from a video game, would you want this falling into your kids hands?

The above excerpt taken from the full article of the same blog title is more than disturbing to me. I'm sure that isnt easy for anyone to read. And to think that the first amendment protects minors "rights" to play  and rent those games is grim reminder of the reality of the galut. Why is renting a violent (and more real, more interactive and therefore more harmful) video games allowed but a minor isn't allowed into an "R" rated movie? Why is this also not overruled by the First Amendment? I wonder where the moral head went in America. It's like "OK everyone be so damned open minded that your brains fall out of your skulls"! Lets all raise a generation of sociopath, bloodthirsty, mass murders in training. What's the difference between these images:

young boy playing shooting video game

Kids playing games with realistic weapons look like terrorists in training

And these images;

Hamas terrorist in training

He takes the "game" seriously!

Early training

Well I think we all know the difference, the reality is the above images of Hamas Terrorist Training Camp is a very real form of child abuse that teaches kids hatred and violence. Kids like this go to sleep with images of murder and bloodshed ingrained in them. This tactic desensitizes them from early on. By the time they are adults they will be ready for martyrdom and murder. The images of the children playing video games I thing are almost exactly the same. Except the martyrdom. This isn't a western value. Although I wonder what the kids or men who came into public places and shot people and killed masses of student in high schools were doing at home? Were video games part of their home life? I wouldn't doubt it at all.

This is freedom in 2011, this is the next generation... should I dare start talking of conspiracies??? Maybe next time. And in the meantime, let freedom ring!

Iran's fashion crackdown moves beyond headscarves - Haaretz Daily Newspaper | Israel News

Iran's fashion crackdown moves beyond headscarves - Haaretz Daily Newspaper | Israel News

You know, who am I to talk, right? How can I disagree with the Muslims and their need to enforce modesty? I mean, I live in Israel in an Orthodox neighborhood where women dress modestly, covering their elbows and knees, most wear socks or tights to cover their legs and close-toed shoes. You may even see a few women with shawls. All married women in my neighborhood cover their hair. So who am I to poke at this issue of forced modesty and modesty police in Iran? How can I, when I myself believe that women should dress and conduct themselves to a degree of modesty that is above and beyond the western norm?
Well, I can criticize it and I will. Calm down! Let me explain before I make myself into a hypocrite, ok? Yes we have laws of modesty in Judaism, which the Qur'an does as well I suppose. We live in Israel right, so why aren't we going around arresting women who don't comply with the standard? Well there are some differences in case you didn't know, to the Qur'an and The Torah, and there are differences between Iran and Israel.
Let me just point out a few.
Israel is a democracy for starters and very much interested as a State in preserving a western mentality, for better or for worse, but this is true. It is one of the only places in the entire Middle East where anyone can walk around dressed however they want without being harassed (Warning: Do NOT attempt to walk in Meah Shearim in a bikini to test my point... you will be more than harassed). What I am trying to say is there is respect and there is force. No one will be arrested for not dressing to the maximum level of modesty that you find in Israel and one will not be arrested for dressing to the minimum. You will see all types of fashion here to the very refined to the most honky-tonk-out-of-date-hope-you-never-see-it-again-nightmare styles. There is definitely fanaticism here, but it's individual. People decide their level of observance, if at all. I myself would never feel good living in an entirely Chasidish environment but I have a friend who only feels comfortable there. If I go there dressed in my hippie clothes (or as one friend puts it "Laura Ashley"), I don't get the feeling that I'm wrong for not fitting in. You can hear stories of fanatics who act like criminals but I wouldn't say that's everyday life.

In Iran, by contrast, this is the law. If you don't comply with dress regulations you are arrested. In Afghanistan you will be stoned to death. This is why this attitude is so appalling to the West because we take pride in our freedom. This is a G-d given right and it's our choice as a people to honor our Holy bodies or not. Our merit rests in the decisions we make whether or not to sanctify ourselves by keeping certain things private or not. But it's free will. Forcing someone only breeds resentment and contempt and isn't really religion. When someone resents the deed they are doing because they don't believe in the meaning of it or they don't have the choice how are they serving G-d ultimately? They are serving the regime.

In Judaism we serve G-d because we love and fear Him. But the love aspect is a higher form of service. Serving out of fear of punishment is lower because, well, common sense will tell you, no one wants to be punished. But serving the Creator out of love is the highest form of respect and giving. Especially to a Being that you cant see, this is true faith. The healthiest and happiest of His people serve Him this way, out of pure love and devotion to His Torah. I cover my hair and my body because I love G-d and I respect the wisdom in His commandments, therefore I want to be Holy to Him. I also love myself and respect myself, as well as my husband.

Do you see the difference here?

Free Pollard Protest Footage in Tel Aviv

Free Pollard protest at the US Embassy in Tel Aviv. My friend Dina is in the blue shirt in the beginning! Dina you are a true activist and I commend you on all the support you give to so many important causes. May Hashem continue to give you, and all of us strength to stand up and fight for what's right.

I dont even know the words....

I dont even know the words to describe the feelings I have for the unfortunate captive, a man who has more than served his time. Jonathan Pollard's father, Morris Pollard z"l is being laid to rest today, and supporters of Pollard are demanding that he be allowed to attend his fathers funeral. MK's and others, 200 in total, protested outside the US Embassy in Tel Aviv yesterday hoping to have a voice on Jonathan's behalf. The White House was flooded with calls. Unfortunately the switch board is closed on Sunday and eventually an automatic message was set up that said so. There are 5 million Jews in America, why arent they doing more? Why is he still imprisoned at all? He harmed no one, his acts were motivated as a means to help Israel. Maybe this was misguided, but he has more than served his time. His sentence was unusually long for such a crime. We have seen many worse criminals set free in much less time than Pollard has served. A recent case, the "Lockerbie Bomber", for instance, killed 270 people and is walking a free man, just because he has terminal Cancer. The health of Pollard is also deteriorating and he didn't kill a single person, so why should he still be incarcerated after 26 years already served?
Friends, please continue to call The White House and demand the release of Jonathan Pollard, this is a mitzvah of "Pidyon Shevuim" of freeing a captive. We do this for any Jew who is being held in unfair sentence and especially at the hands of non-Jews.

The number for the White House comment line is 202-456-1111. Or visit Justice For Jonathan Pollard  for more info on how you can help.
May Hashem free all the captives. (Please also keep in mind in your tefillot, Yehonatan ben Malka, Gilad ben Avivah, Yaakov Yosef ben Raizel, Yoel Zev ben Mirel Risa Chava, and Yosef ben Ita Rivka)

Miracles In Gaza

This video is the testimony of Ariel Sielgelman, an IDF soldier who fought in Gaza during the Intifada. He relates his experiences and how Hashem was so obviously with them during their difficult mission. This is a very amazing story, one of the many, of miracles during IDF missions. I really appreciated the very real and clear message that the IDF doesn't protect Israel, G-d protects Israel and the IDF. Hashem gives the IDF their strength. He leads them. May Hashem continue to protect Israel from our enemies.

Shavuot Is the Yahrtzeit of King David!

Shavuot Is the Yahrtzeit of King David! This I didnt know!
What a wonderful video of the essential meaning and Mitzvot of this Holiday. I was so caught up this week about which cheesecake I wanted to make and the food I would serve that I "forgot" that there is a deep meaning behind the day.

This is the day that we received the Torah on Har Sinai. When Moshe Rabbeinu came down and told us the 10 commandments. The most amazing event ever. G-d spoke first and gave the commandments, all of them simultaneously. The Jewish nation were all there witnessing this tremendous event together on Shabbat morning, Sivan 2448. Their neshamot actually left their bodies with tremendous force and entered again, they actually passed out after hearing each commandment and had to be resurrected each time. His voice was so great that they fled to the end of the camp and the Angels had to retrieve them and put them back to their places. After the first two commandments the B'nai Yisrael were so frightened that they begged Moshe to give the rest of the commandments. Hashem's voice broke the cedar trees because it reverberated with such force. (source The Midrash Says, Book of Shemot pp.180-182) This is so hard to fathom, the enormity of such an event!!!

This event was witnessed by the entire nation of Yisrael, not just one or two people.

"And the entire nation saw the voices and the thunder, and the sound of the shofar, and the mountain was consumed with smoke. The people saw and were frightened; therefore they stood at a distance. They said to Moses, "You speak to us and we will hear, but G-d shall not speak to us lest we die." (Exodus 20:15-16)

I also of course love that he mentioned Jewish unity, which is so important. Jewish unity and loving our fellow Jew no matter where they are in their observance. This is so important! Every Jew has a neshama! Every Jew is loved and important to Hashem! If Hashem loves all Jews then we must all make an effort to love each other and not point out all our differences in disgust as if we are better, or more right. Every faction of Orthodoxy has validity. And every Jew, even if they are not observant is precious. We all have something else to contribute to the tapestry of Judaism. My ideals are very lofty. But I truely believe that this is the path to greeting the Moshiach Tzidkeinu in our days,  and we can once again bring the offerings to the Temple in Yerushalayim. Amen.

CHAG SAMEACH to you and yours!

On that note, Shabbat Shalom!

Klavan's One-State Solution: Give the Middle East to the Jews!

Shameless self promotion ;)

BS"D
I am proud to announce the opening of my new Etsy.com store named "A Country Romance"! Named so because I love my country Israel, which is also why I used a blue and white color scheme. Also because I love the style of  hippie, country, romantic, soft flowing "Bat Ayin" type clothing and style. I hope to be able to bring this to a broader audience. This is all in fashion again and I couldn't be happier. I sell accessories and head coverings and soon jewelry B'Ezrat Hashem! Maybe I'll even put up some of my hand-spun yarns!
All of the items in my shop are hand sewn/made by me or with the help of my personal seamstress. All the designs are mine. I make the wrap snood in different lengths and with wider and longer/shorter ties then what you buy in a hat store and are my design. There will be more styles listed soon and hopefully will automatically post through facebook. It's all very new to me now! So stay tuned!
Please G-d this should be a way to support Israel, my Israeli Olim family (us), and bring beauty to the modest woman. (KY"R)

Update: July 5th 2011;
I've decided to change the name of the store to something a little shorter, catchier and more explanatory. Unfortunately, although the previous name was more meaningful, it was a little long and didn't really say a lot about what I sell. I guess that's how it goes sometimes! The new store name is "Velvet Chic", because most of what I sell and what I'm "famous" for are the velvet snoods. Hopefully it will catch more attention, who knows? Hakol Min HaShamayim!

Conning the world is getting a lot jazzier!

I am outraged at this video and that famous musicians (Coldplay ) are endorsing it. I could barely hold the vomit from rising up my esophagus the entire time I watched. I was especially incensed at the cartoon imagery of the IDF shooting into Gaza and blood spilling in the streets... um, if I'm not mistaken it's actually the Hamas terrorist group who are shooting rockets into Israel's borders and blowing up buses, spilling the blood of Israeli civilians. How is it that this could even get confusing? Of course on the You Tube site, the comments are disabled, good thing because I would be obligated to post one of the many videos taken after a terrorist attack, carried out by Arab murderers, of bloodied bodies spilled through the streets and limbs scattered about, as a video response to this. This is what they want? They want "Freedom for Palestine" to have the ability to cross over into our borders and murder Israelis? "Break down the walls" they say, well why were they put up in the first place? Maybe because there was an intifada... twice!!! Maybe because many Israeli civilians and soldiers lost their lives!

Oh and lets not forget how they sneaked a line in there about an "apartheid state". Yes we in Israel are practicing apartheid, you really nailed us on that one! Wow! Gee, last time I was in the hospital, inside Israel's borders by the way, in Jerusalem... in Shaarei Tzedek Hospital, there were many, MANY Arab patients there and even Arab doctors, and not just Israeli Arabs, Palestinian Arabs with full garb walking around free, getting free medical treatment FOR FREE! America doesn't even afford that luxury! I have seen them in the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo and at the Malcha Mall in Jerusalem. Once two women in Hijabs and their children were actually eating pizza in the booth right behind me and our children were playing together, yes my kids actually played with Palestinian kids... and no one was angered or upset. I was kind and so were the mothers. They walked and shopped in the mall without a shred of fear or anxiety that they would be arrested, raped, kidnapped or attacked by Israelis! Now lets think a minute what would happen if I decided to go to a mall in Gaza? Do you think I would enjoy the same freedom as a Jewish religious woman? I would also like to mention that I have encountered Arabs shopping and at the zoo and at holy sites around this country and have never witnessed an Israeli being mean to them or treating them differently. I'm not saying that this has never happened but it's NOT  the norm.

Everyone seems to be forgetting a few things here, in Gaza, we pulled out, why, because of pressure from the International communities. Why are we being blamed (you can see in the video) for the poverty of Gaza...well supposed poverty, they have a lot of luxury too, but for propaganda purposes you will only see the worst of the Pallywood set. They need to leave something for the world to feel sorry for and use as leverage against Israel. Anyway, if they want us out then don't expect help, you can blame that on Arafat and Hamas who filter(ed) out all the aide coming in into their own private bank accounts and into funding their militia. If the "Palestinians" get a State (Chas V'Shalom) they should not expect any help from Israel. They will of course continue to blame Israel for the poverty and oppression I'm sure.

Nothing that you saw in this video is based on the truth. People choose to be oppressed. They label themselves and they fortify it by advertising themselves as the pathetic nation they are. The International communities have funded them and they could have used the money to build themselves, they could have empowered themselves by acting like human beings and by not subscribing to hate and violence as a means to communicate with Israel. They could educate themselves like the rest of the world does and go wherever they want, or build their communities and build commerce. Which I think they are managing to do quite well with luxury hotels and malls anyway. Israel shouldn't be blamed. But all they want is to play games, because that is exactly what this is. The are conning the world.
